Abstract

Objectives: This study was designed to investigate the vaccination status and associated factors on timeliness of vaccine administration among school-entry aged children-selected Yuseong district, Daejeon, 2005.

Methods: This study was based on data collected in February to March 2005. The subjects of survey was total 3,748 children. Among them, 3,458 children were selected final analysis. The parents of subjects answered the structured questionnares developed by reseacher with personal self-administration. This study examined the relationship between timeliness of vaccinations and characteristics of parents, vaccination-related knowledge, attitudes, vaccination providers using multipe logistic regression. The dependent variables were timeliness or DTaP3 vaccination and MMR1 vaccination.

Results: The timeliness of vaccine administration was 80.3% in BCG, 89.5% in HepB1, 89.1% in HepB2, 92.7% in DTaP1, 86.4% in DTaP2, 74.2% in DTaP3, 68.8% in DTaP4, 93.8% in DTaP5, 92.7% in Polio1, 86.5% in Polio2, 74.1% in Polio3, 68.1% in Polio4, 67.7% in MMR1, 91.1% in MMR2. Factors associated with receiving DTaP3 vaccination as recommended were utilizing the private clinics and hospitals, keeping the immunization record, having a good knowledge of vaccination, having pediatric clinics in 1§° distance, in case MMR1 vaccination were having a father younger than 40years, utilizing health center.

Conclusions: For decreasing preventable disease outbreak by increasing timeliness of vaccinations, health centers have to cooperate with private clinics for keeping personal immunization record. Also, it is necessary to find and settle the socio-economical and psychosocial factors in low timeliness of vaccinations.
